Background
Located in the heart of Canada’s capital, the University of Ottawa offers bilingual post-secondary programs in several disciplines. Originally founded in 1848, the campus comprises a mix of buildings ranging from century-old structures to modern science labs and sports facilities. Services to the various buildings are provided by the University’s centralized plant. The University has committed itself to forward thinking and the responsible use of energy. To meet these goals, advanced control strategies are implemented.
Unique problem to solve
With buildings ranging from modern to centuries old, the university sought a uniform control system that would meet their energy conservation goals.
System solution
There are over 30 buildings on campus, all served by a centralized plant. A Delta Controls system was installed to monitor and control a majority of the mechanical systems. A high- speed Ethernet control network was installed to co-exist with the University’s wide area network. Several science laboratories integrated third-party fumehoods controls. Delta Controls were used in music rooms and other critical environments housing sensitive materials or equipment. Several of the newer buildings now enjoy complex, innovative control strategies thanks to Delta Controls’ powerful programming capabilities.
Results
The University of Ottawa selected Regulvar and Delta Controls as their sole control providers. The Delta Controls architecture offers the University all the features required to meet its current needs and future requirements. Standardized installation procedures, networking and alarm management allow for easy access to massive amounts of information. The University of Ottawa has won several awards for energy efficiency and HVAC design projects. Delta and Regulvar are proud to be associated with University of Ottawa’s success.
