Background
Carleton University is located along the Rideau Canal in Ottawa. Founded in 1942, it offers programs in over 50 disciplines. The 62-hectare campus has over 30 buildings and new facilities are added regularly. The University has remote installations as far as Sudbury, Ontario, home to its SNOlab underground facility.
Unique problem to solve
The University wanted to update aging systems, as well as integrate all building controls into one single operator workstation.
System solution
A Delta Controls’ solution was selected and installed to control the mechanical systems in most buildings. Older, obsolete control systems were replaced with the latest generation of Delta Controls devices in several existing locations. New installations are being fitted with Delta Controls equipment. In addition, Delta lighting panels are also used to manage lighting in the new facilities. The Delta network at Carleton communicates over high-speed Ethernet with fiber optic links between buildings. Its system architecture also integrates other vendors’ components such as Phoenix fumehoods and McQuay chillers.
Results
The Delta Controls system allows Carleton’s controls technicians to enjoy true single-seat operation for monitoring, troubleshooting and controlling all major mechanical and lighting systems on campus.
