May 16, 2008

The Alliance reflects a commitment to drive innovations in demand response that will create smarter buildings and promote environmentally sound business practices

BALTIMORE – May 16, 2008 – Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG) and its subsidiary, Constellation NewEnergy, announced today the creation of the NewEnergy Alliance, a group committed to driving innovation in the building automation industry that will create smarter, more energy responsive buildings. These buildings will be capable of reacting to changes in the energy marketplace at anytime by reducing and adjusting energy consumption.

“By bringing together a broad coalition of companies and industry leaders, the NewEnergy Alliance will help drive innovations in demand response technologies,” said Peter Kelly-Detwiler, senior vice president of energy technology services for Constellation NewEnergy. “This effort may help bolster the reliability of regional energy grids, as well as provide customers with new revenue that can be invested into efficiency measures and environmental programs."

Members of the NewEnergy Alliance will work together to help drive innovation across the building automation system industry by sharing best practices, new technologies and advanced energy strategies to bring the economic and environmental benefits of demand response to every building that has a building automation system.

“The goal is to create Energy Responsive BuildingsSM by integrating building automation systems with real-time energy market data and pricing signals,” said Leighton Wolffe, vice president of alliances and strategy for Constellation NewEnergy. “This commitment to developing and implementing enterprise level energy solutions and technologies will deliver advanced energy expertise and innovative tools that today’s customers need to identify and leverage the energy in our built environment.”

Constellation NewEnergy will participate in the NewEnergy Alliance through its subsidiary, Constellation Alliance, LLC. Other participants include leading equipment manufacturers, building automation companies, system integrators and software application businesses. The founding members include: Cimetrics, Clasma, Constellation Alliance, LLC, Delta Controls Inc., Energy Control Inc., Gridlogix, LonMark International, Novar, Richards-Zeta, and Tridium. Together, Alliance participants are working to forge a new electricity load response model that will surpass the current utility-driven demand response offerings and provide customers with more control over their energy costs.

“The NewEnergy Alliance is committed to delivering the tools customers need to meet economic and environmental business objectives,” said Jack McGowan, president and chief executive officer of Energy Control Inc., an Alliance member. “This collaborative approach will ultimately allow facility owners to control and proactively manage their electrical costs by more effectively harnessing and directing load in response to changes in the energy marketplace, including real-time and day-ahead pricing.”

The Alliance participants view deployment of a new load response model as integral to the development of more energy efficient and price responsive facilities. Membership is predicated on a commitment to embracing open platforms that enhance building automation systems, deliver best-in-class innovative technologies to customers, and make possible and promote sustainable energy strategies.
