June 2012, San Antonio TX, For only the fifth time in the 25-year history of BACnet, a new chairman has taken the reins! In a brief ceremony at the conclusion of the June 25 plenary SSPC meeting in San Antonio, outgoing Chairman Dave Robin, ALC (R), handed over the gavel to Carl Neilson, Delta Controls Inc. (L).
Carl will serve the next four years (2012-2016) as Chairman and is looking forward to continuing the strong leadership values shown by past Chairmen in leading the BACnet community forward during its next phase of improvements addressing the changes in the building automation industry.
Carl has stated that "the keyword for BACnet over the next few years will continue to be integration. The Committee is actively working on Smart Grid extensions, improvements in the support for integration of building automation data with enterprise data, and the development of sematic data and standard system descriptions. I see this work as important to the goals of better integration, not only between building automation products, but between building automation, the enterprise and beyond."
BACnet was developed under the auspices of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), BACnet is an American national standard, a European standard, a national standard in more than 30 countries, and an ISO global standard. The protocol is supported and maintained by ASHRAE Standing Standard Project Committee (SSPC) 135 (aka The BACnet Committee).
