ESC is currently looking for a qualified dynamic Applications Engineer in the Seattle, Washington market.
Job Title: Technical Sales Representative
Reports To: Project Manager
Job Summary: The Applications Engineer is responsible for three different facets of construction projects. These include designing, programming and commissioning.
Designing
This design phase consists of producing detailed technical shop drawings for consultant approval and as a guide for our electrical installation team. The various components required to produce a working set of shop drawings are as follows:
- Scope of work
- Sequence of operations
- Valve and damper schedule
- System panel architecture
- Points lists
- Local panel reports
- Wiring details
- Bill of materials
Producing such a document involves extensive interaction and coordination between the salesman, application engineer, project manager, mechanical contractor, and mechanical engineer. The length of time involved can vary from a couple of days to several weeks depending on the size and complexity of a project. On average an application engineer would spend about 40% of their time performing design.
Programming
This programming phase of a project consists of creating Delta Controls GCL software in order to satisfy the sequence of operations produced in the design phase. Programming involves:
- Creation of I/O
- Creation of GCL
- Creation of controllers
- Creation of trend logs
- Creation of alarms
On average an application engineer would spend about 20% of their time programming.
Commissioning
The commissioning phase of the project requires on site system testing to ensure that the software sequences meet the design intent. This requires extensive knowledge of the Delta Controls system. If programs do not perform as expected, changes will be made at this point in time. The final part of commissioning is performing loop tuning. This is performed to make sure setpoints are attained and equipment is operating within its parameters.

Minimum Requirements
- Graduate from Instrumentation or applicable technical or engineering diploma program.
- Working knowledge of HVAC control and theory, basic electrical and electronics experience.
- HVAC controls industry experience through system applications.
- Thorough knowledge of the application of the Delta Controls products.
- Thorough knowledge of computer systems, networking and related software.
- Well developed trouble-shooting skills and problem solving skills.
